Mandarin Oriental Geneva – Timeless Luxury on the River Rhone
Geneva has always been known for its sophistication, culture, and natural beauty. Among its finest places to stay stands the magnificent Mandarin Oriental Geneva, a five star luxury hotel that offers breathtaking views of the River Rhone and the distant mountains. The location could not be more perfect, just a short walk from the old town, exclusive shopping streets, and the famous Geneva Water Fountain.
A Heritage of Elegance
Originally built after the Second World War, the Mandarin Oriental Geneva has preserved its graceful Art Deco style while embracing modern comfort. Every detail reflects timeless luxury and thoughtful design. The bedrooms and suites were refurbished in 2013 by Sybille de Margerie, who added a touch of contemporary French elegance without losing the hotel’s heritage charm.
Our Stay in the Rooftop Junior Suite
We had the pleasure of staying in the Rooftop Junior Suite with Terrace, and the experience was simply wonderful. As you walk in, a spacious dressing room welcomes you on the right and a magnificent marble bathroom on the left. The bathroom features both a walk in shower and a beautiful bathtub, perfect for a relaxing evening soak.
The suite includes a master bedroom with a large and comfortable king bed and an elegant workspace with a round table. The highlight, however, is the expansive rooftop terrace that offers panoramic views of the River Rhone framed by the distant Alps. Both mornings were sunny, allowing us to enjoy the terrace fully, sipping coffee while watching the city slowly wake up below.
A Culinary Journey at Yakumanka
Dining at Yakumanka, the hotel’s Peruvian restaurant, was one of the most memorable culinary experiences I have had in a long time. We were treated to the chef’s specials, and each dish was full of flavour and creativity. I can still remember the taste of Cebiches and Tiradito Nikkei, both absolutely delicious.
We also attended a Pisco Sour masterclass organised by the hotel and the restaurant team. It was a delightful experience where we learned more about Peruvian traditions and even prepared our own Pisco Sours. It was both fun and educational, adding a special touch to our stay.
Breakfast with a View
Breakfast at the Mandarin Oriental Geneva was another highlight. On the first morning, we enjoyed it on our private rooftop terrace, surrounded by sunshine and mountain views. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were flawless. On the second morning, we tried breakfast in the Yakumanka restaurant, which offered the same level of excellence with an elegant setting.
A Birthday to Remember
A special thank you goes to the Mandarin Oriental Geneva team for the thoughtful surprise they prepared for my husband’s birthday. The staff beautifully decorated the room and arranged a divine chocolate cake along with the finest champagne. It was a lovely gesture that made our stay even more memorable.
Final Thoughts
Our stay at the Mandarin Oriental Geneva was pure perfection from start to finish. The combination of luxurious design, exceptional service, and breathtaking views makes it one of the best places to stay in Geneva. Whether you are visiting for a romantic getaway, a city escape, or a special celebration, this hotel promises an unforgettable experience filled with elegance, comfort, and genuine hospitality.
