We recently completed a full renovation of our ground floor, and the transformation has exceeded all our expectations. What was once a traditional layout is now a bright, open-plan space that seamlessly combines our kitchen, sitting area, and a dedicated home office. Every detail was carefully considered—from structural layout to colour choices—and I am excited to share how it all came together.

From Closed-Off to Open-Plan Living

The biggest change was knocking through the existing walls to create one large, flowing space. We wanted a layout that felt sociable and light, but still allowed for distinct zones. By opening up the floorplan and designing smart separation between spaces, we now have a modern kitchen and dining area, a cozy sitting space, and a stylish, enclosed home office—all while keeping the natural light flowing throughout.

A Bold and Beautiful Home Office

One of our favourite features of the renovation is our newly created office space. We decided to go bold here, painting the walls a deep green that makes the room feel rich, grounded, and full of character. We filled the space with books, artwork, and personal pieces, creating an environment that feels both inspiring and calm. It’s a space we want to spend time in—whether working, reading, or just enjoying a quiet moment.

To separate the office without losing that open-plan feel, we worked with Super Slim Glazing, and we truly cannot say enough good things about them. They installed black steel frame glass office doors that bring a clean, architectural edge to the room while letting light pass through beautifully. The results are absolutely stunning—crisp, minimal lines that enhance the bold decor without overwhelming it. The team at Super Slim Glazing was amazing from start to finish: professional, friendly, and incredibly precise with the installation. Everything was fitted perfectly, and their attention to detail really shows. The finished doors not only look incredible, but they also feel solid, smooth, and high-end. We are so happy with how it turned out.

A Cozy Sitting Area with Style and Comfort

In the heart of the open-plan layout is our new sitting area, which we kept simple, elegant, and comfortable. We chose a gorgeous white boucle sofa from Furniture Story—and it’s every bit as luxurious as it looks. The quality is outstanding and the overall look is soft and sculptural, adding warmth to the space. The delivery experience was flawless—the team built the sofa on-site and even took away all the packaging, which made the process completely hassle-free.

Letting the Light In with a Skyseal Roof Lantern

One of the most transformative additions to the renovation was the installation of a Skyseal roof lantern above the kitchen and dining area. Because we extended the space to create a larger, more open layout, we wanted to make sure it didn’t feel dark or enclosed. The roof lantern has completely changed the atmosphere—it floods the room with natural light throughout the day, making the whole space feel bright, airy, and welcoming. It’s amazing how much bigger and more uplifting the area feels now, and in the evenings, the view of the night sky adds something really special. This single feature has elevated the renovation and truly maximised the potential of our new open-plan living.

A Kitchen Made for Living

Our kitchen area is now a central hub for cooking, chatting, and everyday living. The standout feature is the kitchen island with a custom worktop—we went for a large design that gives us plenty of room for everything: food prep, casual dining, coffee breaks, and even the occasional laptop session. The decision to go big with the island has made the space so much more functional and social—we love how it brings people together.

Garden Views with No Drilling Required

Finally, for our bi-fold garden doors, we used stick-on blinds from Blinds by Post—and we’ve been really impressed. These clever blinds require no screws or drilling, which means no damage to your frames and a very clean, modern finish. They were super easy to install, and they sit neatly within the frame, providing privacy. They’ve been a practical and stylish addition that we highly recommend to anyone looking for an easy window covering solution.

This renovation has been a huge project, but the result is a home that reflects who we are—bold, creative, and full of life. From the statement office and beautiful glass doors to the inviting kitchen and sitting area, every choice feels right.

If you’re planning a ground floor makeover, we hope this gives you a bit of inspiration—because when design meets function, it really is magic.
