A Weekend in Rome – How We Spent 2 Magical Days in the Eternal City
It’s been a while since I last wrote about my travels, but after sharing my recent trip on Instagram, I wanted to tell the full story here. Rome completely captured my heart. Known as the Eternal City, it’s a place where every street feels like an open-air museum. Wherever you go, you’re surrounded by breathtaking architecture, centuries of history, and an atmosphere that’s both lively and romantic.
Our 2-Day Rome Itinerary
We only had two days in Rome, which isn’t nearly enough for everything this incredible city has to offer, but we made the most of it. Our hotel was just steps away from the famous Trevi Fountain, and it was simply astonishing. Probably the most beautiful fountain in the world — and also one of the busiest! Staying in this area turned out to be ideal, as most of the main attractions were within easy walking distance.
During our stay, we explored some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks:
- The Colosseum – an awe-inspiring reminder of the city’s ancient grandeur.
- The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill – perfect for walking among the ruins of history.
- The Vittoriano (Monument to Victor Emmanuel II) – striking architecture and fantastic views.
- The Pantheon – one of the most beautifully preserved buildings from ancient Rome.
- The Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona – lively, elegant, and full of character.
Every corner revealed something new — a hidden courtyard, a street musician, or a quiet café serving the best espresso. Rome rewards those who wander.
Where to Stay in Rome
If you’re visiting for a short break or weekend getaway, stay near the Trevi Fountain. It’s a central and convenient location that puts you close to most major attractions, and the area comes alive beautifully in the evening.
Rome Travel Tips
A few practical tips to help you make the most of your visit:
- Book Colosseum tickets online to skip the long queues.
- Travel in the low season if possible. We went in October and it was still crowded, so February or early March would be even better.
- Use Terravision or similar shuttle buses from the airport — they’re reliable and much cheaper than taxis.
- Walk everywhere. Rome is best explored on foot; every street and piazza has something worth seeing.
- Take time to simply enjoy. Sit in a café, listen to the sounds of the city, and let Rome’s energy soak in.
Final Thoughts on Our Weekend in Rome
Even with only two days, Rome completely stole my heart. It’s a city overflowing with beauty, history, and passion — a perfect blend of ancient wonder and modern charm. Whether you’re visiting for a quick weekend or planning a longer trip, Rome is a destination that will stay with you long after you leave.
